Consumers Embrace CPG Meal Starters.

General Mills, Kraft Food Group and Campbell Soup are developing new meal kits and starters targeted at consumers who want to cook but aren’t inclined to prepare meals from scratch, the Associated Press reported.

The average number of meals eaten at home rose in 2012, according to NPD Group, yet traditional products like Rice-A-Roni saw sales decline in the face of new competition from General Mills’ Progresso Recipe Starters, Kraft Food Group’s Sizzling Salads and Campbell Soup’s Skillet Sauces.
